Uses
Cebex 100 is an admixture for cementitious grouts and concrete where a reduced water/cement ratio and positive expansion is required. Applications include bed grouting, duct grouting, non-shrink infilling and jointing.

Advantages
  • Gaseous expansion system compensates for plastic shrinkage and settlement in properly designed cementitious grout.
  • Reduced water/cement ratio in the grout mix ensures low permeability and long-term durability in service.
  • Gives high grout fluidity with low water/cement ratio, thus making placement or injection of the grout easy.
  • No metallic iron content to corrode and cause staining or deterioration due to rust expansion in the grout.
  • Composition allows high early strength development in grouts, without the use of chlorides.

Standards compliance
Cebex 100 is a suitable pre-stressing grout admixture when complying with BS 8110 Part 1, 1985, section 8.9.4.6.

Description
Cebex 100 is supplied as a powder admixture. The material is a combination of a plasticising agent and a gas-producing expansion medium. The plasticising agent allows the use of Instructions for use

Mixing
For best results Fosroc MR3 mixer must be used. For quantities up to 50 kg a slow speed drill fitted with a highshear paddle is suitable. Larger quantities will require a high shear vane mixer. It is essential that machine mixing capacity and labour availability is adequate to enable the grouting operation to be carried out continuously. This may require the use of a holding tank with provision for gentle agitation to maintain fluidity. The selected water content should be accurately measured into the mixer. Slowly add the cement (and sand if required)and Cebex 100. Mix continuously for 5 minutes, making sure that a smooth even consistency is obtained.

Application
Areas to be grouted should be prepared to ensure substrates are clean, sound, and then pre-wetted. The unrestrainedsurface area of the grout must be kept to a minimum. Place the grout within 20 minutes of mixing to gain the full benefit of the expansion process. Adopt usual placing or pumping procedures ensuring a continuous operation.

Curing
On completion of the grouting operation, any exposed areas which are not to be cut back should be thoroughly cured bymeans of water application, Concure* curing membrane or wet hessian.

Cleaning
Grouts mixed with Cebex 100 should be removed from tools and equipment with clean water immediately after use. Remove cured material mechanically or with Fosroc Acid a reduced water/cement ratio with consequent increasedstrength and durability. The expansive medium counteracts the natural settlement and plastic shrinkage of the grout andaids stability and cohesion. Sufficient restrained expansion is developed to ensure a high degree of interfacial contact.

Specification
Performance specificationAll grouting (specify details and areas of application) must be carried out with a cement based grout incorporating aplasticised, expanding powder admixture. The admixture must be iron-free and chloride-free and shall be added tothe grout in the proportions 225 g of admixture per 50 kg of cement. The admixture shall provide an expansion of up to 4% in the plastic grout, by means of a gaseous system. The admixture must be stored, handled and mixed strictly inaccordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

Epoxy resin concrete bonding agent
Uses
For bonding fresh wet cementitious materials to existing cementitious surfaces. For use on horizontal surfaces or on vertical surfaces where mortar or concrete can be supported by formwork. The long ‘open’ life makes it suitable for use with formwork or where additional steel reinforcement has to be fitted. The product is ideal for roads, bridges, pavements, loading bays and factories, building segment and for bonded or granolithic fl oor toppings. Nitobond EP is equally suited to internal and external applications.
Nitobond EP may also be used as part of a repair system where a bonding agent is required or where the substrate is likely toremain permanently damp or wet.

Advantages
  • Nitobond EP can be applied by brush.
  • More overlay time : Enables to place the concrete for longer period of time, without risk of delamination
  • High bond strength : Bond strength is more than the tensile strength of good quality concrete
  • Barrier coat : Acts as a ‘barrier coat’ to the migration of chloride ions from host concrete.
  • Can be applied on to dry or damp substrates

Description
Nitobond EP is based on solvent free epoxy resins containing pigments and fine fillers. It is supplied as a two part materialin preweighed quantities for ready onsite mixing and use. Coloured components - white base and green hardener - provide visual evidence that adequate mixing is achieved.

Technical support
The company provides a technical advisory service supported by a team of specialists in the field.

Design Criteria
Nitobond EP is designed with an overlay time of 5-6 hrs at 200C, 2-3 hours at 30 0C making it more suitable for use where additional steel reinforcement and formwork has to be fitted or where temperature is high. The minimum application temperature for Nitobond EP is 10 0C.

Application instructions

Preparation
All surfaces to be treated must be firm, dust free and clean. All laintence should be removed by etching with Reebaklens and wire-brushing. In some cases, the existing concrete must be chipped to a sound substrate. Where surfaces are contaminated with oil or grease, this should be removed by using a strong industrial detergent or organic degreaser. Surface should be washed thoroughly with water and dried before the application of Nitobond EP.

Mixing
Care should be taken to ensure that Nitobond EP is thoroughly mixed. The ‘hardener’ and ‘base’ components should be stirred separately before mixing to disperse any settlement. The entire contents of the hardener can should be poured into the base container and the two materials thoroughly mixed until a uniform colour is obtained. To facilitate application at temperatures below 10 0C the separate components should be warmed in hot water to a maximum of 25 0C before mixing.

Coating
Where Nitobond EP is to be used as part of a repair system to form a substrate/repair barrier, care should be taken to achieve an unbroken coating. One coat should be applied and allow to gel. A second coat should be applied and used as the bonding coat. In some situations (e.g. sprayed concrete repairs) it may be advantageous to scatter dust free sharp sand over this coat and leave to harden. As soon as the Nitobond EP has been applied, any requiredsteel reinforcement and/or formwork should be erected and fixed securely in place.

Limitations
Nitobond EP should not be applied when the temperature is below 100C. If any doubts arise concerning temperature orsubstrate conditions, consult the local Fosroc office.

Application Instructions
Preparation
All the surfaces which are to receive Brushbond, must be free from oil, grease, wax, dirt or any other form of foreign matter which might affect adhesion. Spalled and deeply disintergrated concrete should be removed to sound concrete and repaired with Renderoc System.

Mixing
Brushbond liquid is poured into a plastic or metal drum. To this, an equal volume of clean fresh water is added, for brush application consistency. Then mixing is started with a slow speed drill (350-450 rpm). The powder component is added gradually to the liquid avoiding lump formation and mixed for 2-4 minutes. Mix and use. More material should not be mixed than can be used within pot life. Retempering with water should not be done. Keep on stirring during application.

Application
For best results moisten the surface before coating with Brushbond. Apply the mixed material using a short, stiff bristle brush preferably 100 to 150mm width like a paint. Trowel applications can be undertaken as necessary using the correct mixing ratio to obtain satisfactory consistency. Brushbond shall be applied in two coats to achieve 1mm thickness. The second coat of Brushbond shall applied as soon as the fi rst coat has reached touch dry state. On hot substrates, i.e., over 400C surface temperature, a primer coat of mixed Brushbond Powder and water with a slurry like consistency should be applied. Prime only areas that can be coated with Brushbond Powder before the primer dries. Material should not be applied at temperatures below 100C. It is recommended that for general re-surfacing the total thickness of the applied material be 1 to 2 mm.
Areas subjected to moderate and heavy loads/hydrostatic pressure, minimum 2mm thickness coating is recommended with screed above. Allow the Brushbond to dry before covering with screed. Sprinkle coarse sand on wet surface of final coat for better adhesion of screed. Average drying time is 4 to 6 hours at normal temperatures.  Water curing or Curing membrane shall not be applied over Brushbond coating, only air curing is recommended.

Mechanical Key (Vertical & Horizontal application)
Sprinkle sieved coarse sand on wet surface of final coating for better adhesion of plaster or screed. Allow the coating to dry for a minimum period of 7 days before covering with plaster on the vertical surface & 3 days before covering with screed/ plaster on the horizontal surface. Maximum thickness of cement plaster recommended is 12 to18mm & height of 1mt in a single day to avoid de-bonding of plaster from Brushbond coating. Any deviation from the above recommendation please contact Local Fosroc offi ce for advice.

Subsequent Finishes
Brushbond provides an aesthetically pleasing surface fi nish texture depending on the method of application, and does not normally require any further surface fi nishes. Brushbond is however compatible with most forms of subsequent coatings.

Cleaning
Brushbond should be removed from tools and equipment immediately after use with clean water. Hardened material canbe removed mechanically.

Instructions for use

Surface preparation
All surfaces which are to receive the coating, must be free from oil, laitance, grease, wax, dirt or any other form of foreign matter which could affect adhesion. Typically, concrete surfaces can be cleaned using a high pressure water jet or grit blasting or wire brushing or mechanical grinding to achieve proper adhesion between the concrete surface and coatings.

Spalled surfaces or those containing large blowholes, and other such defects, should be repaired using Nitocote CM210 or a Fosroc approved repair mortar. Care must be taken when choosing the repair mortar to ensure that it has all necessary approvals for contact with potable water

If the surface contains small blowholes, typically less than 1 mm wide, the coating can be applied directly onto the substrate without the need for a treatment.

Cracks which are less than 0.3 mm in width can be over-coated as long as the crack is not likely to open up to greater than 0.3 mm (this is greater than the maximum permissible cracks widths recommended in BS8007:1987, the British Standard Code of Practice for the design of concrete structures for retaining aqueous liquids).

Cracks which are greater than 0.3 mm in width should be chased out to 4 mm in width and approximately 15 mm in depth. This should be fi lled with Nitocote CM210 (applied using a Fosroc ‘G’ Gun). When the material in the crack has hardened the coating should be applied over the crack

Mixing
The liquid polymer (5 kg) is poured from the plastic container into a plastic or metal drum having a volume of at least 25 litres. To this, the powder is gradually added (18 kg) whilst mixing with an approved spiral paddle attachment on a slow speed drill. Mixing is continued until a lump free slurry is obtained.

Non metallic, monolithic surface hardening compound

Uses
Nitofl or Hardtop Standard provide a highly abrasion resistant surface to concrete fl oors by the dry shake-on method which ensures that the hardwearing surface bonds monolithically to the base concrete. They are ideally suited for all industrial areas subject to the heaviest traffi c, e.g. loading bays, trucking lanes, car parks, workshops, machine shops, ramps and spillways.

Advantages
  • Non metallic - does not rust or stain.
  • Provides a hard, abrasion resistant surface
  • Forms monolithic bond with base concrete
  • Easy and economical to apply
Description
Nitofl or Hardtop Standard is quality controlled, factory blended powder which are ready to use on site. They contain special quartz-silica aggregates which have been selected for abrasion and wear resistant properties as well as shape and size. These latter considerations, together with the use of high performance workability admixtures, produces a material which is easy to trowel into the surface of fresh, wet concrete. Nitofl or Hardtop Standard cure monolithically to provide a dense, non-porous surface which is extremely hardwearing and abrasion resistant. Monolithic cure ensures that problems normally associated with thin ‘granolithic’ screeds, viz., shrinkage, cracking, etc., are completely overcome.

Being non-metallic, Nitofl or Hardtop Standard provide a nonslip surface which will never rust and disintegrate.

Technical support
Fosroc offers a technical service to specifi ers, end users and contractors, as well as on-site technical assistance in locations all over the country.

Specification clause

Non metallic surface floor hardener
All concrete floors shall be surfaced or broadcast with Nitofl or Hardtop Standard, a non-metallic monolithic surface fl oor hardening compounds containing rust free, hardwearing aggregates. The aggregates shall have a Moh’s hardness of not less than 8 for Nitofl or Hardtop Standard.

Compressive strength
Nitofl or Hardtop Standard shall possess a minimum compressive strength of 70N/mm2 @ 28 days when tested as per ASTM C109 (w/p ratio - 0.10).

Application instructions

Base concrete
The base concrete should have a minimum cement content of 300 kg/m3 . The concrete mix should be designed to minimise segregation and bleeding. The concrete should have the designed flow as per the structural requirement.

Use of Fosroc’s water reducing admixture is recommended. The base concrete should be laid and compacted in accordance with good concrete practice. Accurate fi nished profi le and minimum laitance build-up should be ensured. Particular attention should be paid to bay edges and corners to ensure full compaction.

Timing of Application
The timing of application Nitofl or Hardtop Standard is important and critical. If applied too early, bleed or excess water will wash away the cementitious content of the products, thereby making them ineff ective. Also denser aggregates sink into the concrete.

If the application of Nitofl or Hardtop standard is done too late, there will not be suffi cient water/moisture to absorb the material into the concrete. Material forcibly applied and trowelled thus, will cause cracks on the surface later, as there is no water/ moisture to hydrate the product.

This is advisable to carryout a mock-up with Nitofl or Hardtop along-with the available concrete at site to fi nalise the Hardtop application timing as it is extremely dependent on temperature and humidity present at site.

Description
Nitobond SBR(Latex) is modifi ed styrene butadiene emulsion specially designed for use as a bonding aid and gauging liquid for cementitious systems. It is resistant to hydrolysis and can therefore be used for external applications too.

Chemical resistance
Cementitious materials have limited chemical resitance. The addition of Nitobond SBR (Latex) to cement mortars reduces permeability and therefore helps reduce the rate of attack by aggressive chemicals.

Application instructions
Surface Preparation
The object of the surface preparation is to achieve a clean sound surface with a good mechanical key. All substrates should be cleaned and free of dust, plaster, oil, paint, grease, corrosion deposits, and any other deleterious substances.

Laitence should be removed by mechanical means. Smooth substrates must be mechanically roughened e.g. by scabbling, needle gun or grit blasting to provide an adequate key.

Corroded reinforcing steel should be exposed around its full circumference and cleaned to remove all loose scale and corrosion deposits. It is always preferably to clean the steel to a bright condition. Use of emery cloth, grit or sand blasting is recommended.

Priming
Reinforcing steel must be primed with Nitozinc Primer immediately after cleaning. The concrete substrate should be thoroughly dampened with water and any excess removed before being primed by thoroughly scrubbing in a slurry coat of 1 volume Nitbond SBR (Latex) to 1 volume water to 3 volumes fresh cement.

In order to obtain a smooth consistency the cement should be blended slowly into the liquids. Stir frequently during use to off set settlement.

Avoid ‘puddling’ of the slurry coat. The topping must be applied on to the wet slurry. If the slurry dries out it must be removed and the clean substrate reprimed.

Oil or greasy deposits should be removed by suitable means. All surfaces so treated should be thoroughly washed with clean water. Smooth substrates must be mechanically roughened e.g. by scabbling, needle gun or grit/ sand blasting to provide a mechanical key. Concrete repairs : Any reinforcing steel in the repair area should be exposed around its full circumference and cleaned to remove all loose scale and corrosion deposits and then primed with Nitocote AP35, acrylic primer. All surface dust and debris shall be removed.

Priming
Immediately before priming, the concrete substrate should be thoroughly dampened with water and any excess being brushed off . Scrub Nitobond AR Std. bonding aid into the substrate. Puddling of the emulsion to be avoided. The repair mortar/topping should be applied whilst the primer is still tacky. However a satisfactory bond can be achieved upto 15 mins. after application at 300C. In order to obtain a smooth consistency mortar, the cement and sand must be dry mixed and then poured into the liquid with the required amount of water in the prescribed mix proportions.

Additional Guidance
Edges shall be cut back to avoid feather edging and all surfaces including edges shall be primed using Nitobond AR Std. bonding aid.

Limitations
As a bonding agent
Nitobond AR Std. bonding aid may exhibit less overlay time at higher temperature. In such cases, overlay mortar shall not be applied when Nitobond AR Std. bonding aid is totally dry. Nitobond AR Std. bonding aid when used as bonding agent cannot act as a barrier coat against ingress of chloride ions from the substrate.

Equipment cleaning
Immediately after use, wash all tools with clean water.

Precautions
Health & Safety instructions
Nitobond AR Std. bonding aid is non toxic. However it should never be ingested and if it comes into contact with eyes, it shall be washed immediately with plenty of water and medical treatment shall be sought immediately. Nitobond AR Std. bonding aid is slightly alkaline. Skin contact should be avoided. Gloves and protective clothing should be worn.

Fire
Nitobond AR Std. bonding aid is non fl ammable

Two component epoxy zincrich primer.

Uses
Nitozinc Primer is recommended for priming exposed steel reinforcement for use with Fosroc concrete repair mortars. The product actively resists corrosion within the confi nes of the repair location and avoids the generation of incipient anodes in immediately adjacent locations.

Nitozinc Primer is compatible with all Renderoc mortars and fl uid micro concretes.

Advantages
  • Anti corrosive - Active 'Zinc-rich' system combats corrosion by electro chemical means.
  • Two component product - Easy to mix and use.
  • Timesaving - Touch dry after 30 to 45 mins.
  • Excellent adhesion - Exhibits excellent bond strength in cementitious repairs.
Description
Nitozinc Primer is supplied as a two component system based on metallic zinc and epoxy resin which on mixing gives a grey coloured liquid.

Technical support
Fosroc off ers a comprehensive range of high performance, high quality concrete repair and construction products. In addition, Fosroc off ers technical support service to specifiers, end-users and contractors, as well as on-site technical assistance in locations all over the country.

Design Criteria
One or two coats of Nitozinc Primer are generally required, dependent largely on the nature and profi le of the substrate. Nitozinc Primer is recoatable generally between 30 minutes and one hour after the application of fi rst coat. Application of top coat may also proceed at this time. At elevated temperatures, the recoatable and overlay times will be reduced. The minimum application temperature for Nitozinc Primer is 100 C. The local Fosroc offi ce may be consulted for further information.

Application instructions

Preparation
Any corroded steel shall be fully exposed and all loose scale and corrosion deposits shall be removed. Steel should be cleaned to a bright condition paying particular attention to the back of exposed steel bars. Grit-blasting is recommended for this process.

Where corrosion has occurred due to the presence of chlorides, the steel should be high-pressure washed with clean water immediately after grit-blasting to remove corrosion products from pits and imperfections within its surface.

Mixing
Both components shall be mixed until a homogenous mixture is obtained. It is important that both components are intermixed thoroughly and that no traces of the components remain unmixed. A slow speed heavy duty drill fitted with a paddle is recommended for mixing.
